Training Practice

Junior Doctors

As a training practice, we teach and support Junior Doctors through their training. This includes newly qualified Foundation Doctors and GP Registrars. These Doctors play a vital role in the healthcare system as they undergo rigorous training to become fully qualified Practitioners.

During their time in our surgery they are expected to manage their appointment times effectively, ensuring that each patient receives the necessary attention and care.

Junior Doctors start their appointment time slots at 30 minutes as a Foundation Doctor / ST1 Registrar and work to reduce this as they increase their efficiency and proficiency in patient consultations. As part of their training, Junior Doctors are supervised and guided by our GP Partners.

Typically, towards the end of their training, the minimum face-to-face consultation time is set at 15 minutes. This allows them to develop the skills needed to handle a variety of appointments including face to face, telephone and online consultations, whilst maintaining a high standard of patient care.

This structured approach ensures that Junior Doctors are well-prepared to meet the demands of modern general practice.

Registrars & Foundation Level Doctors

Roundwood surgery continues to be a fully approved training practice for both GP Registrars and Foundation Level doctors.

GP Registrars are qualified doctors who have graduated from medical school over 2 years. These doctors have decided they wish to take up general practice as a career and their placement with us is part of this training and is usually 4-6 months, but could last 10 months.

GP Registrars work under the supervision of Dr Glover and Dr Cappin who are our GP Trainers.

Foundation year doctors are also fully qualified and registered, but have only had 1 year working since graduating from medical school. Some of these doctors will be budding GPs while others are looking forward to training as hospital specialists. Foundation level doctors mainly work under supervision of Dr Johnson and Dr Carter.

Medical students

The practice undertakes the teaching of undergraduate medical students. As a patient you will be informed when a student is with a GP. It is, of course, your right to decline their presence at your consultation. Please help us to train the next generation of doctors.
